Data Collection Via Google API I asked for a fairly simple web form based upon the google api. What I got was just that but the code was simply copied and pasted from google api examples posted on the web. I would say there were three lines of code the programmer contributed and I ended up having to customize the entire page myself. Overall, the programmer provided what I needed in the most rudimentary form and, for that, I was grateful. Did I think it was worth ? Certainly not considering the fact that he spent about 5 minutes pulling the code snippets together and pasting them into a single document. Would I hire him again? Probably not for anything that required coding from scratch.
Another oddity is that the programmer insisted that he be paid via PayPal rather than via the GetACoder escrow account. His claim was that the money transfer took took too long. When I asked the GetACoder folks, they balked at that claim and reiterated that the escrow mechanism protected both parties better than PayPal (or other payment mechanisms).
Another thing worthy noting is that the programmer claimed to have contribued a LOT of javascript. That claim can only be true if he were the person who wrote the google api original examples. I guess you get what you pay for with these projects and in the end it was worth it to me to have someone else do the leg work for these code snippets. Next time I think I will hire a local undergrad at 5 bucks per hour to search google code examples for me. I would save a bundle!
