Service Description:
I have over eight years experience in data recovery and software development; over the past two years I have transferred these skills into the computer forensics and electronic discovery industry.

I enjoy delivering custom bespoke tools on demand, and am happy working under time pressure.

My background in programming, file systems, and software design has allowed me to gain a highly detailed knowledge of over 7 different programming languages, reverse engineer 3 different database formats, and develop tools to extract data from a wide variety of backup formats.

I have over five years of reverse engineering experience, much of which was devoted to understanding database such as Oracle.

In the past two years most of my work has been involved in the creation of tools to extract data from a variety of tape backups systems for the purposes of reviewing the data.

My experience allows me to deal with most difficult and demanding of cases where “just in time” development is required.


*** Senior Developer at Palmer Legal Technologies: July 2006 – to Present

In July 2006 I joined Palmer Legal Technologies as a data recovery engineer and senior developer. I had two primary functions within the company, the first was to repair logically damaged data and the second was to develop Palmer Legal Technologies tape capability. I designed and built an imaging tool called “Chiron” that was able to image both tapes and hard drives. Chiron works at a very low level and can control the exact position of the heads on the hard drive. The tool can image the hard drive in both directions, forward and backward. I have designed and built all the tape tools within Palmer Legal Technologies. The tools I have created are able to extra data from tapes of all different types and formats. As well as creating Chiron to image the tapes and hard drives I have built a tool called “Ceres” that is designed to extract out the file and email data from the tape image. Working for Palmer Legal Technologies I became to be tape expert. I am involved in all projects related to tape extraction and conduct all onsite tape extractions. The tape processing tools I created have proven to be highly efficient for both in lab and onsite use. While at Palmer Legal Technologies I have also produced numerous other tools and widgets at the request of the data recovery or forensic team to either speed up or allow certain jobs to be completed.

*** Lead Developer at KrollOntrack: August 1999 – June 2006

Initially my role was to recover data from a variety of systems including Windows, Apple Macs, Linux, Novell, and Unix systems. During my time in KrollOntrack I moved into the role of developer, and then lead developer. In 2002 to 2004 I was involved in reverse engineering databases. In 2004 I moved into full time development and became team leader in 2005.
