Description
We need a Telit python application, which is capable of recording GPS and Cell ID data, store these on the module (= logging) and send these, when a certain amount of data (e.g. 100 location data) is reached, to a server by means of GPRS. The logging is necessary, because the telit module will move around in an environment where not at all times there will be a good GSM network.
When the logged data are send to a server, but at that time there is no good GSM network, than the sending of these data should be repeated later on until there is an acknowledged success. The data could be send as a CSV or TXT file. Necessary is also a PHP script which will reside on the server and which will take care of receiving the CSV or TXT file and store its data in a MySQL database.
To save on battery power it is the intention to shortly power on the Telit module only 4 - 15 times during 24 hrs at a maximum of 4 minutes during activity bout. In this time the python app should be capable of getting a valid GPS fix. As soon as a good fix is retrieved and stored, the module should stop and fall asleep (using special CALA and CCLK AT commands), to automatically wake up again at the next checking time. These checking times should be configured in a txt file on the server. This makes it possible to change these times by the user. Therefore, whenever the module sends the data file to the server it should check the time settings in this file.
It is the experience with this module that already after 30 - 60 seconds there could be a good fix. If the module does not have a good view to the sky, than a GPS fix is not expected. In such case a maximum trial time of 4 minutes should be applied. After this the module should fall asleep and wake up at the next checking time. With or without good fixes also the proper Cell ID parameters should be stored on the module as are the date, time and IMEI.
Crucial in the design of the software is the limiting of power use by the module, because the module will be powered by a battery and will be in a remote place where it cannot be recharged.
The code will be used for tracking wildlife by our NGO. Our available budget is $ 150,-.
