Description
Please submit a quote for a system based on the following:
A) OVERVIEW
The proposed project is for a FREE, Web 2.0 themed, online sports-league management application, including all Admin tools and functionality to create teams, player profiles, schedules, statistics, send emails, etc…
The non-Admin portion of the site would pertain to the actual team pages that would be publicly accessible and would provide visitors and site members with News, Scores, Schedules, Team / Player Information, Statistics, Forums and Comment System, Photos and Video, etc. The feature and requirement list is as follows.

EXAMPLE SITES
The “laget.se” (unfortunately in Swedish) is a great source for a demonstration on what we are looking to develop. The other sites also have similar features and design elements desired for this application.

GRAPHICS AND SITE DESIGN
The site design will be similar to the design of laget.se however, you are free to add some features.
The site design will be provided as CSS based, standards compliant HTML. The coded site must also render properly in all major browsers and comply with W3C standards. The odd minor exception will be tolerated.
MULTI-LINGUAL
Every pages, labels and text should be loaded via language files so that we can easily add other languages such as French and German in a future version.
If you have any recommendations for other ways to accomplish this, please advise us.
B) ENVIRONMENT
Preferably
- ASP.NET (2.0 or 3.5 framework)
- ASP.net AJAX
- SQL Server 2005
- Custom made CMS OR DotNetNuke application framework whereby all sections will be created as DNN modules within the system
- The application will be hosted on a Windows VPS provided by us.
C) APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS
The application itself will consist of:
- Admin utility for creating and administering Team, and Player information
- Publicly accessible team pages.
- The software should be able to handle any type of sports league, perhaps even video game leagues.
- Friendly URLs, for example:
GOOD: myleague.sitename.com/dragonsfootball/rosters
BAD: myleague.sitename.com?teamid=2789&page=rosters
For this version of the project it will be necessary to be able to provide support for 5 sports to start.
- Soccer (football)
- Hockey
- Basketball
- Baseball
- American Football
However, the ability to easily add new sports should be considered in the design of the application architecture. This is a mandatory architectural requirement.
From the corporate site home page:
- Ability to Search for Teams (from a map – as the one in laget.se)
- Login
- Start creating a new team account
New accounts:
- Choose sub-domain name and also have the option to map an existing domain name to the newly created sub-domain. We will need to provide the instructions to users on how they can do this.
- Get basic info such as contact name, email address, and the type of account they are opening up (bronze, silver or gold)
- Account Types (FREE, with Google ads (or other advertising like the one on laget.se) to be displayed on public pages). Remember to let option like Silver or Gold (Premium services) will be added in the next version, so please design the account types so that multiple types can be used.
TEAMS OPTIONS
- Upload custom league logo
- Color pickers to customize page border and backgrounds, font colors, etc.
- Times zones, Language / Languages, contact info, notification settings, etc.
- googlemap application (to find the field where they are playing)
TEAMS
- Create and managing teams. (Teams admins may have special rights to modify a Teams information)
- Create and Manage Seasons (for example Summer 2009, Summer 2010, etc.)
- Manage rosters (add, edit players), and user account creation and management so players may log in AS a player and not just a visitor to the site.
- Create and manage game schedules (automatic schedule generation is not required, but if you think you can do this, please indicate so in your quotation). Add different color for the type of game (training, matches and events). They need to have the possibility to extract the calendar on outlook, google, ical, etc…
- Automatically send an email to the registered players before an event.
- Schedules should show as a calendar and be able to link to game locations, times, and maps to get to games.
- Add and manage game venues, fields, arenas, stadiums that may be used by the league, with Google Maps.
- Update scores, with player and game statistics unique to the sport of the league.
- Automatically update standings and statistics reports based on game scores and stats.
- Ability to enter previous season statistics
- Admin pages to adjust league and statistics categories and scoring rules. Ability to add custom statistics.
- Manage public forums and postings
- Manage Team news
- Photos and Videos (at first only a link to youtube or dailymotion)
- CUSTOM pages (optional Contact pages, League Rules, History, About, or any other WYSIWYG type page that an admin user could create.
- Downloads (for documents that may need to be signed)
- Poll/survey option
- Ability for a Team or Player to join an existing Team (request send directly to the admin)
- Blog tool.
- SEO Tools (some of this is provided in DotNetNuke, I think)
- Add sponsors (logo, info, etc.) that can be viewed in the Sponsors section and possibly on the Public page if the option is set.
- Ability to turn on / off certain modules, like Sponsors, for example. This can be discussed in more detail.
- Ability for Team admins to send out messages to registered members. Email messages only for this version (but think that we want to add a SMS version).
Team Pages:
- Newspaper style home page which displays Team news, schedules, remember, etc. Similar to laget.se but adhering to the style of this site.
- From the home page, clicking on each section will allow visitors to view information in more detail. Scores, stats, player info, schedules, news, etc.
- Forums which visitors can join to upload photos and post comments.
- Google ads (create a SUPER-ADMIN account so the site owner can decide to turn then on or off for a particular account)
* We are also open to solutions using PHP or RoR which may leverage other frameworks. If you would prefer to use another development platform, please provide reasoning for doing so.
D) SELECTION CRITERIA
Please provide the following:
- Examples of your work and past achievements
- Your recommended solution and possible ideas
- If you are proposing a different solution, please provide details as to the advantages and disadvantages.
- Strong command of the English language is required.
- Must have strong database design skills.
- Must develop application using best programming practices. This can be discussed in your solution.
- If using DotNetNuke, please provide your experience level, and if you propose a different solution, then your experience level in the technologies and environment you plan to develop in.

This site is just for rugby, but provides functionality for registered users to create leagues, add teams to the leagues, create seasons for the league, update player lists for a match as well as recording the scores and the scorers for a match as well as additional match stats such as yellow cards and substitutions.
Our portfolio shows some of the other work we have done. I would like to draw your attention to the news section on the Hartwood site. This is a simple content management system developed using SQL Server and .NET - we would do something like this for your site, although we would add in a WYSIWYG interface. The Hartwood site also has a area which allows administrators to add documents for users to read.
We are particularly interested in this project - you certainly understand the functionality you require which will make it far easier for us to produce what you want!

1) Do you have a valid spec sheet?
2) This would take 90 days(anyone who gives you a lesser deadline is underbidding on the time frame) minimumm, I will work with you to realize your goals, and will tell you if something will increase my timeframe. Even if you have a spec sheet, I can guarantee that some things will have to be changed after the fact, i will work with you to an extent on issues that make logical sense.
3) I cant start this till March 1.
4) I would need to distinguish my templates so that they dont look like my other clients work.
5) Would need to work hand in hand with a daily/several times a week phone call lasting 5-30 minutes depending.
6) I prefer to work at nights, My schedule may conflict with your needs, but that is how i get the most work done.
I am in Seattle,WA so am in the PST zome.(regular schedule your time)
7) I would need to see a decent project requirements before moving forward.
8) Any follow-up repairs to this system after the fact will still require payments. Most customers wind up paying between 100-200 per
additional feature requests not covered in the spec data.
9) I need access to your server asap to get a variety of things setup for production of the software. All programming would be done
on your server
10) You get what you pay for. If its not in the spec sheet, then i am willing to negotiate other functionalities you need on a realistic basis. You will surely recieve lower bids, but i am a professional with over 15 years of experience.
11) I never put my eggs in one basket. Some days I may spend 12 hours on your map, some days i may only do 4. This may be frustrating, but i have clients that I must support in a long term capacity. I work weekends and am available 24/7 for emergency support.
12) The software is very complex. If you are planning on reselling it, it will not be formatted in such a way that it migrates to other servers well.
16) Windows Server needed with –* Active domain pointed at it
* Administrator access.
* Non-Firewalled for setup period.
* Full version server, you must actually own windows.
As far as hosting providers, I suggest Godaddy, and any plan over 100$ a month is good.
