Description
Overview
We require a Web application capable of downloading and displaying email from a POP3 server. Reply or compose new email’s is not required.
The system should show a page with a list of emails. From there, you can view the contents of individual email’s, delete one or more emails from the list, or mark them as processed.
The system must allow the user to view the emails without deleting them from the server (leave messages on server).
Only new email need to be downloaded from the mailbox, emails already downloaded shouldn’t be downloaded again.
The system should also allow the user to download attachments.
Operation details
• The main form shows a list of emails with the following columns: date, sender, subject, size.
• Each e-mail has a checkbox on the left side, so the user can select one or more records to delete them or mark them as processed.
• There’s a button "download now" that allow the user to download new emails.
• The subject of each email is a link to a new page that displays the message body, links to download attachment’s and other email details.
• We don’t require functionality to reply nor compose new emails. Just download and display is needed.
Technical details
• Java SE, 1.5.x. JSP
• Struts2 / JPA2 (Hibernate) / Spring
• There’s no need to use ajax.
• Server side validations and JQuery validations.
• Emails should be recorded in a database (NOT into a mailbox file), considering at least the following entities: email, email_status (not reviewed, processed, deleted, etc).
• This development will be integrated in a bigger system. So simple actions and jsp’s are ok.
• Object classes that represents an email are a must. They are needed for the integration with the bigger system.
• All configuration parameters should be obtained via objects. No hardcoded parameters.
• Use of open source libraries or software it’s ok.
