Description
I'm looking for either arduino like device to provide the following functionality: *Portable compact console port data logging *Device should be able to interface with traditional console ports - both Serial interfaces and RJ45 interfaces. Needs to support both. *Device should have a basic management facility to set respective console communication port parameters e.g. baud, parity, flow control, etc. *Device should be able to log all gathered console output to portable storage such as flash, SDHC, SD card, etc. *file format and structure are negotiable - just need any way to distinguish files and time stamps. Idealistically a simple .txt file of the output would suffice. Things I really want to have - but aren't deal breakers: * Powered via console port. In the spirit of an easily portable device, I don't want to provide external power to it. If this unobtainable, then battery powered (but long life) * Be able to set parameters that are "sticky" - so when I unplug said device, I can insert it into a different console port and it will automatically boot, and start capturing data from console port.
So in summation, imagine a handheld device you can easily walk up to any router/switch/etc with a console port, plug it in, and it will automatically log any output to the storage onboard of the device.

This cost is for the desing and developent of the device.
This do not include any shippement cost for sending the hardware.
We have created similar devices to work with weight scales and log it to a SAP system.
Cost include desingns, firmware code, and fully functional prototype.
as in all our works we do provide 3 month of support.

I would need more information to give you the best bid. What max baud rate would you need to support, and would you need the use of all control lines (RTS, CTS, etc)? Would you need the ability to access the console output through the logger (passthrough)? For the configuration, would a simple USB<->serial menu system work? Would there be any need to transit data from the logger to the device to start the communication process (so for XYZ router you would need to send 'hello<cr>', etc)?

It's not very clear to me what do you mean by "console": I imagine something like a Nintendo DS or Playstation Portable or similar, but then you talk about "router with console port":
-------------------------
*Portable compact console port data logging
*Device should be able to interface with traditional console ports - both Serial interfaces and RJ45 interfaces. Needs to support both.
[...]
So in summation, imagine a handheld device you can easily walk up to any router/switch/etc with a console port,
-------------------
Could you provide additional info or a link?
Besides, I'd need additional info about the "Rj45 interface": would it be a standard ethernet connection or a proprietary protocol?

This bid is a guess. To properly give a bid, I need to know baud rates, RJ45 pin outs, etc. Does the console terminal still need to operate? How accurate does time need to be? Do you want just a design or a completed working device?
