Description
We need to create a simple price listing service that processes pricing (and availability) product data feeds from several vendors and provides an html page per product when requested displaying the list of prices and availability of each vendor for that product.

The service consists basically of four modules:
1- Data feeds processor: parses the data feeds and stores prices and availability in the database
2- Page server: provides the product price listing page in response to an online http request
3- Admin and Monitorization tool: manage the configuration, activation and status of previous modules and allows to browse historical log of processed feeds

Data feeds processor:
- Feeds are in text format (csv, fixed length) accepting simple variations
- Input data validation (existing products, prices between thresholds, ...)
- Monitor running loads
- Log load results with complete report of failures
- Mail notification of load failures to vendors

Pages to display:
- Similar to any search comparison engine (kelkoo, froogle,...)
- Includes vendor logo, product description, price, availability and links to the product
page of the online vendor
- Vendor display order is configurable for each product (coming as another data feed)
- Multi language support
- Multi currency support
- Based on updatable templates to support slight layout customizations for each country
- Compatible with IE6,IE7,FF2,FF3,Opera9,Safari

Administration and Monitorization tool:
- View historical logs of data feed loads with details of report results
- View historical logs of application errors and fail status
- Mail notification of application errors
- Ability to validate why prices may show up incorrectly, why vendor doesn’t show up on the list, etc.
- Real time online status report of running processes
- Configuration of vendors and data feeds
- Configuration of application parameters
- Manual launch of data feed processes and fixing of product pages

Operational Requirements
- The service must be implemented using Java and Oracle and will be running on Unix
- This is a critical service and should support High Availability, therefore it must be designed for easy escalability and redundancy
- Application failover in the event of hardware or software failure must be automatic and driven by monitoring or load balancer health checks.
- Each separate component of the application can be monitored independently.
- Health check mechanisms are built into the solution. E.g. For a web based solution be able to check that the web server is available, the web application is available and if the web app draw data from the database.
- The application correctly logs fatal conditions within each layer. The error log makes use of clear comments and codes to map onto identifiable conditions. The application supports automatic log rotation and clean-up. E.g. a new log is created each day, does not exceed a certain size, etc.

The implementation of the service should include the following:
- intensive functional and load testing
- complete deployment in the datacenter until it is fully operational
- technical documentation for future extensions
