thecresentmoon.com is a satire news site that anybody can submit their stories to.
I've worked on the logo a little bit, but I would like a grammatical carrot, for which a letter is missing in the word "cresent." The actual spelling of crescent has the letter "C" in it, yet the logo is spelled "cresent." The "C" will look like a cresent moon. I want this to give this site a humorous feel.
The submitting process will hopefully be simple. There will be a button on the right side of the front page that will read "Submit Your Work!" When they push the button it will automatically send them to a screen where they can make an account. They must fill out their first and last name, a password, E-mail, City, State, and Country. Once that is filled out they will be sent to a screen where they can submit their articles along with a photo if they desire. A person can only submit two articles a day. Each submission that a person submits will be automatically put into their portfolio, and this portfolio will have all the submissions that they have ever posted in it. A gold star will be placed next to a submission that was headlined, and a silver start next to one that was a runner-up. I want all submissions to go to my E-mail first in order for me to block all the inappropriate articles and photos.
The front page is set up as followed:

There will be five categories in which to choose from that will be placed horizontally above the headlining story. The categories are Home, News, Entertainment, Sports, and Opinion. I will sort through each submission and place them in the appropriate category.
On the left side of the front page will be a crescent moon, which will display the days headlining story. The story, with its picture, will be displayed in the dark side of the crescent moon. The headlining story will be the best submission of the day, which will be chosen the night before. At first, I want to be the decider of which story will be headlined, but maybe down the road we can have the viewers decide.
All the stories that werenâ200231t picked as a headliner or runner-up will be placed in the appropriate category, but not shown anywhere on the front page.
On the right side of the front page will be the "submit your work" button at the top. And below that will be the previous headlined stories, along with some "runner-up" submissions to plump up the page. I also want a photo album of all the pictures that were submitted, these pictures will be the ones that people have rendered a bit to look humorous or unique.
I want the background of the site to be all black and the color of the font to be gray. I may want to set up borders around the headliner, submit button, related stories and photo album?
theonion.com is a great example of what I want the site to compete with and resemble, format wise.
And that's the site! I hope its "do-able," and I look forward to getting it done!
