Projects:
Cloud Data Centre Design using Openflow
· The aim of this project is to evaluate how a data centre can be designed and implemented using tools such as openstack in collaboration with the openflow protocol for connectivity between and among data centres. The openflow is a software defined networking environment that enables virtual flows between data centre segments. The idea is to efficiently manage and maintain clouds using the openflow protocol for improving performance and saving costs and resources.
Provenance Analysis in a Cloud Data Centre
· This project is aimed at exploring the mechanisms to capture, store and analyse provenance traces in clouds. The provenance information will be exploited to implement an audit trail and accounting mechanism for Clouds. A framework will be designed and implemented that should allow users and applications to monitor user actions, applications and data to enable audit and accounting features through provenance information.
High Performance Computing in Clouds
· The proposal is to build libraries and tools for enabling HPC in clouds. Using the proposed approach, users and application may use single physical resource and infrastructure to perform HPC as well as HTC computations. Coupled with the agility, dynamicity and scalability that clouds offer, the proposed paradigm will make the life of the user and application easier by offering a single architecture for divergent needs. Users for High Performance Computing applications can take advantages of the large volumes of resources in clouds and perform compute and data intensive HPC applications over clouds according to their application’s demand and without deploying actual physical infrastructure. Thus a lot of money could be saved by paying for as much resources their application consumes and also from reducing the wastage of electricity, cooling system etc, when the HPC application is not running.
Security and Privacy in Clouds
· The objective of this project (Ref: taken from FP7 ICT Security) is to analyse and evaluate cloud computing technologies with respect to potential security weaknesses in sensitive environments, and to further develop new technologies for implementing high assurance clouds. Important topics of research include, but are not limited to: 1) how distributed systems can be built with cloud services that provide end-to-end data confidentiality? And 2) how can existing security mechanisms like security policy enforcement, identity and access management, incident response handling or auditing be adopted in large scale cloud environments?
Efficient Virtual Machine Scheduling in Clouds
· The advent of cloud computing has presented new challenges in scheduling and resource management. This project aims at exploring the techniques and tools for an efficient scheduling mechanism for clouds. There are a number of parameters such as machine size, cost, network latency, resource availability, alternative resources available and resource security that need to be taken into consideration before a virtual machine is scheduled to cloud. This project will propose a novel scheduling algorithm that should take into account these parameters before the placement of a virtual machine.
Context Aware Clouds
· Context-aware systems aim to use the knowledge of user and environment context to proactively provide services relevant to the user situation. A context-aware system usually comprises several context management functionalities. Most important are acquisition, reasoning and distribution of contextual information related to entities (user, device, environment, network etc.). This project aims at designing and building a context aware Federated cloud framework from where devices, users and applications can access information while on the go in different administrative and geographical domains. The clouds should not only store data but also capture, model, represent and produce contextual information from applications, users and systems.
Multi objective Optimization in Clouds
· In grid infrastructures the computing resources on which workflow tasks execute are pre-provisioned. However in the case of Cloud computing infrastructures, dynamic provisioning of virtual resources may be required to execute a workflow. This virtual provisioning may add a cost element to the execution of the workflow. The cost may be impacted by the nature of data transfers being carried out within the workflow and by the computation requirements of the workflow tasks as well as the Quality of Service (QoS) requirements for the workflow. This project will explore the optimization of multiple factors using multi objective based machine learning approaches.
Stream Cloud: Video Stream Analysis using Cloud Computing
· In the Stream Cloud project, we propose to investigate a solution for a real time analysis of video streams to be captured by thousands of off the shelf cameras deployed for security, surveillance and monitoring applications. The solution will attempt to provide functionality that is needed for mining, matching, and analysing the video objects using cloud computing… –––––––––––.
