Description
We currently have a working Web Application for GIS map viewing that needs to be improved in both appearance and functionality. This application is very simple (3 pages) similar to Google Maps or Yahoo Maps, only it is for specific GIS data, not street maps. The user workflow is something like this: Pick a project, pick a query to perform, enter search criteria, perform the query, see query results, pick a query result, to see a map, pan and zoom the map. The map is a .jpg generated by a .NET Map Creation Class connected to GIS information. The Map Creation class development is complete and is not part of this project. This project must use the Map Creation class as it exists today (however, if minor changes are needed to improve the Web Application, they can be investigated).
Requirements:
•Must use Visual Studio 2005
•Web Application must support desktop browsers: Internet Explorer, Firefox, and Opera
•Atlas/Ajax support is desirable where applicable
•The Web Application created will be a template and distributed as part of a product. It must be configured so that it is easily customizable for colors, fonts, logos, styles, etc. The existing application attempts to use CSS, but much better support is needed.
•Must not use any controls, software, etc. that cannot be found with Visual Studio 2005 (no additional software will be purchased or distributed)
•It is desired to have a new Web Application written from scratch, rather than modifying the existing web application. There should be nothing used from the template for the process of getting the GIS and map information from the Map Creation class.
•The existing Web Application should in no way influence the design of the new Web Application. The existing application was designed to test the Map Creation class, not to be a properly designed or user friendly web application.
•The enhanced Web Application should be easy to use and flashy as it will be part the template web site delivered with the resulting product.
•You must have experience developing ASP.NET web site (with some reference examples).
