Description
I am currently the primary patent holder for Digital sampling playback doorbell device. Please see patent # 7,382,233 on patent trademark website for any further detail. We have 2 protoypes of this device. The first is now obsolete owning to exspired chips. The second design has issues that I cannot resolve without requesting solid expertise in USB driven digital signal processing. I would like someone confident in circut board design related to digital signal processing and particularly digital sampling. Must write code, design appropriate amplification. Sorry for the confusion We are looking for a very inexpensive micro based USB memory stick reader that can read selected MP3 files from the memory stick that were placed there by a PC , and decode them into an audio stream. The decoded output will be presented to a 12 watt amplifier for playback through a high quality 4 inch speaker . The playback is monaural but future stereo output should be considered. Playback format should also include PCM format at a minimum of 8 bit 16khz with capability for 16 bit 24khz-40khz being preferred.
We have an amplifier design but would consider other amplified solutions.
The unit will accept 4 digital inputs used for the selection of the playback file and playback initiation. Playback files are selected in serial fashion,scrolling through the memory stick's files in order, each time a button is depressed. The file names are fixed. The buttons will work in pairs. One of the pair will act as a selector, the other button will repeat the playback.
Deliverables:
1. cost effective microcontroller ( or DSP) with USB port capable of supporting a single memory stick and decoding MP3 / PCM files to analog stream. We prefer that the decoding occur in the MCU rather than an external MP3 decoder ( unless it can be shown to be more cost effective ).
2. source code to support MCU, preferably written in C
The use of an off the shelf kit or commercially available board to prove the design is acceptable.

We have already having a solution with Atmel USB chip ready today. The file system in USB is 32bit FAT PC readable and writable.
We have two options of solution.
1) Microcontroller using External Decoding chip at target manufacturing cost of 40$ for two chip solution
2) Single chip Solution at target manufacturing cost of 30$.
Our Deliverables will be
1) Complete Schematics in Orcad/pdf format for the solution.
2) PCB layout in orcad PCB format
3) Gerbers for the PCB
4) Bill of materials.
5) Complete C source code with USB Stack.
