Description
We need to modify an existing GPL item to meet our specifications of an simple interface. This is an open source item. It is written in Visual Basic 6. The code is published under the GNU GPL. We do not wish to resell the code or remove any of the copyright notices. Our finished product will have the same open source notices and we will respect and show the same the copyright notices as the original. We like the existing product; it is just rough in appearance. This is a product called Mowes Portable. Its purpose is to be able to create a server installation on a USB flash drive. Go here to download the distributed verision (which is given away free).

It works great. So we are not looking to change functionality, only appearance. When you download and use the product (it's easy) you will observe that the User Interface is clumsy. We will provide screen shots of how we would like it to look (less clutter and better wording). Plus, since product was primarily written with a German interface, the English version is strangely worded. The download allows for an English version (which you need to work from). One of the other problems with the English version is that some of the pop-up info screens still show in German. We want our version to be English only (and we will provide any translations needed) so everything would, of course, be in English. While there are many software additions, which they make avaiable, all we will want to include are more common ones: Apache2, Php4 and Php5, Mysql and phpmyadmin.
You should download the program (and install it) and the source code, so you can see what would be involved to make interface changes (which is we want to do). After you ascertain that you could do this (and we award the contract)... we will submit interface specs, which will fall within your appraisal of what is reasonable. We think it is a project within the price (budget) we indicate, but if we have underestimated, we are flexible.
