Description
Task:
WINDOWS ENVIRONMENT:
To develop an MS Windows (XP) (C# .NET) GUI to server (Solaris) Oracle database solution that reads/writes/deletes 'metadata' for data files that are automatically download onto a server each day.
The GUI will need to include a module that enables the user to manually download tiff file(s) from fixed external URL’s. These downloaded files will be stored on a locally mapped drive i.e. (L:\example\path\to\data\stored\on\the\server\data_file.tif). The mapped drive implements SAMBA network file sharing to a server – This can be done using Active State Perl & Wget.
The GUI needs to automatically update a set of signal buttons (Red or Amber or Green) that relate to the ‘state’ of data file(s) – state being a metadata entry stored within the database.
SOLARIS ENVIRONMENT:
To design a Perl Data Handler (API) that can expose a set of pre-defined database functions to the automated download scripts (these automated scripts exist already and will be modified to call the data handler) – example function ‘calls’:
DataHandler > ADD_DATA = add ‘Metadata_X’ to Table_A Field_B
Data Handler > AMEND_DATA = amend ‘Metadata_X’ in Table_A Field_B to ‘Metadata_Z’
Data Handler > DELETE_DATA = delete ‘Metadata_X’ in Table_A Field_B
DataHandler > REPORT_PROBLEM > send email to administrator with Message_A
The project can be split into the following FOUR tasks for testing purposes.
Section1 - Adding the dependencies of system objects to the database via the .NET GUI
Section2 - Keeping track of all data downloads on the server using the Perl Data Handler
Section3 - Providing the user with a visual overview of metadata on the server and in the mapping system using signal buttons via the .NET GUI
Section4- Providing the user with the functionality to manually download data onto the server via the .NET GUI
The good news is that this project has been approximately 60% completed – I am looking for a coder to complete the rest of the project, under my guidance.
Prerequisites:
- Coder must be able to speak and write code in English.
- Coder must reply to all communication with 24 hours Mon-Friday (unless I have given advanced noticed of coder’s unavailability.
- The project must be completed and tested ONE section at a time - in the order stated.
- The project must be completed on time and within budget.
- Payment will be made on satisfactory completion and testing of the project.
- The coder must test in Oracle 10g XE and the Sharp Develop IDE before sending code.
- The competed project is to remain open with access to all source code.
- The coder will be responsible for producing system documentation illustrating the work he/she has done.
Deadline:
Section1 – 1 week
Section2 – 1 week
Section3 – 1 week
Section3 – 1 week
Total project duration from start to finish is FOUR weeks.
Notes:
I have attached documents within 'additional_files.zip' giving the following information.
1- Graphical overview of the system and dependencies between objects.
2- An Excel file showing the database schema showing tables and system objects – important note: The system has only TWO object types 1- ‘generic system object’ 2- ‘map file object’ - the parameters for each object differ.
3- An explanation to the ‘map file object’
4- Current database SQL creation script – shows tables, fields & data types (Please note that the fields are not definitive – there are still certain design considerations that may require these values to be amended slightly)
5- We have the project set up in C# .Net with the interface defined – this will be sent to the coder we choose.
