Description
Hardware and Software (Assembler) Design for Atmel or PIC.

A current prototype operating system written for the PIC needs to be rewritten/ported to work with an Atmel AVR platform.

Hardware and firmware interface with MIDI I/O which transmits MIDI notes when buttons are pushed. It will transmit CCs between 0 and 127 when pots are moved.

A complier based language such as C will be used to write the code for the “software” which will be uploaded to the firmware (which will be running the new OS which is to be written) – this will control the LEDs using software switches or IF statements to turn LEDs on and off based on MIDI notes received. So a boot loader will need to be added to facilitate the uploading of the “software” to the firmware.

Midi Interface - With Midi I/O or even better a USB port which appears as a midi device in Windows/OSX
Digital Inputs – up to 128 digital inputs for buttons and encoders (encoders will need a de-bounce function written)
Analogue Inputs – up to 64 Analogue inputs for pots and faders
Digital Outputs – up to 128 digital outputs to drive LEDs

Hardware
Suggested platforms:
Atmel AVR or PIC

Using the Atmel AVR platform for instance, drivers will need to be written or adapted from available code to multiplex the Digital and Analogue Ins. Then a Digital Out driver (for the LEDs) needs to be written.

Current Hardware and Code
A full working prototype with all hardware, software and schematics is available.
The prototype uses a Mircochip PIC18F452 with multiplexers.
There are working examples of Assembler Code for the O/S as well as C code for the Firmware – which is uploaded to the PIC via midi.

Basically we want a very cut down version of the Assembler prototype with the functionality as described above.
