Benefits and Drawbacks of Freelancing Alone

Many people start their freelancing careers on GetACoder, and there a number of reasons for this. GetACoder provides an easy and secure way to find work. All you have to do is browse through the jobs and see which ones appeal to you. Instead of waiting for buyers to come to you, you can market your services and expertise to them. If you place a compelling bid, you might get the job. Once the job is completed, the buyer pays through the site. Using this service provides added security because the buyer and the provider are subject to review.

The price for this ease and added security is the small fee that GetACoder takes from every transaction. Some people think that a fee like this is not worth the benefits, so they will try to freelance on their own. Some people are successful freelancing on their own, and some are not.

The Advantages to Freelancing on Your Own
When it comes to freelancing on your own, you do have a few advantages. Mainly, you do not have any fees coming out of your pay. Also, you are not subject to review if you use your own website. While it is a good idea to list testimonials on your site, you do have the ability to choose which ones you want to list. With freelancing sites, all of your reviews, positive and negative, will be shown. Another advantage to freelancing on your own is that you do not have to follow anyone’s rules, and you have more freedom than you would when you use a marketplace.

The Disadvantages to Freelancing on Your Own
Still, there are a number of disadvantages and obstacles to overcome when working outside of a freelancing site. First, you have to work to find buyers. Instead of bidding on a posted job, you have to advertise, to make cold calls, and to send emails in the hopes of finding new buyers. It can also be more difficult to communicate with clients who are not using a marketplace. Instead of having the jobs instructions laid out in a job posting, you have to discuss all of these details via email or phone.

Also, while you don’t have to show any negative reviews on your website, you do not get the benefit of all of the positive reviews that you would have on your profile. You have to request that your buyer write a recommendation when that is simply part of the system on GetACoder.

If you freelance on your own, you also have to maintain your own website. If you cannot afford to maintain aprofessional looking website, you are not going to have many buyers. Even if you can maintain your own site, you will have to spend time doing that rather than working on paying jobs. On your own site, you do not have a set system in place to help guarantee that your buyers pay you. On GetACoder, it is easier to ensure payment because of the review system in place.

The bottom line is that unless you are a well established freelancer who has already made connections in the business world, it makes much more sense to freelance through GetACoder. The small fee is definitely worth the wealth of advantages that you receive.
